INTRODUCTION
Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (‘TAR UMT’) was established in 1969 as TAR College with the focus of providing tertiary education opportunities for young Malaysians regardless of race, class and creed who were
seeking quality education as well as meeting the rising demand for human capital from businesses and industries. With its main campus located in Kuala Lumpur and 5 branch campuses throughout Malaysia, TAR UMT Penang Branch is the institution’s first branch campus. The Penang campus sits on a 23-acre land located in Tanjong Bungah, which is just a short 20-minute drive from Georgetown.
TAR UMT Penang Branch presently has nearly 4000 students and uses English as the medium of instruction. We offer a variety of academic programmes under 5 faculties and 1 centre namely:

The academic programmes in TAR UMT are designed with input from industries and professional bodies, thus ensuring that the knowledge and skills that students learn are up-to-date and relevant to the job market needs. Emphasis on students’ practical competency, as well as our close collaborations with professional bodies and industries ensure that students’ internship placements are able to hone their skills and build their networking opportunities.
Learning experiences in TAR UMT are supplemented by career-related seminars, courses, workshops, short career-related courses, and language courses organised by the respective faculties and the Centre of Continuing and Professional Education (CPE). TAR UMT Penang Branch also conducts inbound mobility programme for overseas students. This programme involves cross-cultural forums, industrial visits and idea sharing, community service opportunities, and a chance to explore Penang’s rich cultural heritage and history.
